OPI Summer Make The Rules Summer 2023 Collection Swatch and Review

Hello nail art enthusiasts!  If you have read any of my previous posts, then you know that one of my favorite brands of nail polish is OPI.  I always look forward to when new collections launch and I can get my hands on them to see the colors and feel how they apply.  This post is reviewing the OPI Summer Make The Rules collection for Summer 2023.  There are 12 bright colors, with most of them being pastel neons, 4 pearl finishes and 8 crème finishes.  All of the colors dry matte, I’m sure due to the neon pigments in them.  Keep reading to find out which colors need to make an appearance on your nails!

Makeout-side

Makeout-side is a bright, more purple toned hot pink crème.  This is the cooler toned of the pinks, but it is still bright.  With the neon pigments in the formula it dries faster than usual so you want to make sure that you don’t overwork the polish which could cause more streakiness.  The first coat was barely streaky, but I got full opacity in two coats.

I Quit My Day Job

I Quit My Day Job is a bright pastel neon coral pink crème.  This is the warmer toned of the pinks in the collection.  It is a bright coral that has more pink than orange in it.  This has the same faster drying formula, so keep that in mind when applying.  The first coat was a tad streaky, but I got full opacity in two coats.

Sanding In Stilettos

Sanding In Stilettos is a pale orange with a silver to white pearl running throughout.  As with most polishes that have this pearl finish, you will see brush strokes.  The brush strokes were less visible as the polish dried down.  Once you apply a glossy top coat though, the brush strokes will become visible again.  I got full opacity in two coats.

Flex On The Beach

Flex On The Beach is a bright orange coral crème.  This has a little more orange than pink in it, and I feel it shows more orange on the nail than in the bottle.  The first coat was a little thin and streaky, but I was able to get full opacity in two careful coats.

Sunscreening My Calls

Sunscreening My Calls is a lemony yellow with silver to white pearl.  You can see brush strokes as you apply, but they do become less visible as the polish dries down.  Again, once you apply a glossy top coat, those brush strokes will be more visible.  I got full opacity with two coats.

Stay Out All Bright

Stay Out All Bright is a bright pastel neon yellow crème.  I was pleasantly surprised with the application of the first coat, especially for a yellow.  It was a little streaky, but I got full opacity in two coats and a careful application.

Summer Monday-Fridays

Summer Monday-Fridays is a bright spring grassy green crème.  The formula was a little thinner on this polish.  The first coat was streaky, so I applied a second coat.  It was still a tad streaky and I wasn’t quite satisfied, so I did a third coat.  Third time’s a charm with this one I guess!

I’m Yacht Leaving

I’m Yacht Leaving is a beautiful bright turquoise crème.  This was one of my favorite colors in this collection.  Colors like this make me think of summer for some reason.  The first coat was a little streaky, but evened out and was opaque in two coats.

Surf Naked

Surf Naked is a sky blue with the same silver to white pearl as the other pearl polishes in this collection.  As with the other pearl polishes in this collection, there are brush strokes that become less visible as the polish dries down.  Again, once a glossy top coat is applied, the brush strokes will be more visible.  I got full opacity in two coats.

Charge It To Their Room

Charge It To Their Room is a deep periwinkle crème.  This is the darkest shade in the collection, but it’s not so dark that it looks out of place in this collection.  The first coat was thin and a little streaky, but two coats evened out and was fully opaque.

Bikini Boardroom

Bikini Boardroom is a lavender with a silver to white pearl.  Like the other pearl finishes in this collection, it does show brush strokes. As the polish dries down, the brush strokes are less visible.  However, once you add a glossy top coat, they will be more visible.  I got full opacity in two coats.

Skate To The Party

Skate To The Party is a more cool toned violet purple crème.  This is the cooler, darker purple of the two purples in the collection.  I also like it more because not only is it a cool-toned purple, it’s also a crème finish.  The first coat was a little streaky, but it even out and was fully opaque on the second coat.

My Thoughts

I really liked this collection.  I love how the colors come together to make a beautiful rainbow and definitely say summer in my opinion.  Any combo of these colors would make a great skittles mani or ombrè mani.  They all dry a little faster than a typical crème polish does, so you have to be sure not to overwork the polish using too many brush strokes.  All of the colors also dry matte.  I always use a top coat whether its a shiny top coat or a matte top coat to help extend the life of the polish, so the colors drying matte doesn’t matter to me.  I liked all of the colors, but I would say my absolute favorites were I Quit My Day Jo, Summer Monday-Fridays, and I’m Yacht Leaving.  Which ones did you like.  You can purchased any one of these from my store OPI Summer Make The Rules.
