Morgan Taylor Splash of Color Summer 2023 Swatch and Review

Hello nail art enthusiasts!  Summer is here for most places, and that means summer manis/pedis!  I tend to lean toward the more vibrant colors you tend to see in summer time mani/pedis, so I am always happy to see the summer collections that brands come out with.  This swatch and review is of Morgan Taylor’s Splash of Color Collection for Summer 2023.  This collection of six colors was inspired by The Little Mermaid movie.  Let’s dive right in and see what I think.

All Sands on Deck

All Sands on Deck is bright lemony yellow pearl.  It has a yellow base with just a tinge of green and a white pearl.  You can see brush strokes, so careful application is recommended.  This formula does dry matte, which makes the brush strokes less visible.  However, if you add a glossy top coat, the brush strokes will become visible again.  The formula was easy to work with and was opaque in two coats.

Corally Invited

Corally Invited is light but bright peachy crème.  This would be the “office appropriate” color out of the collection.  Morgan Taylor’s crèmes are always easy to apply, so this one was no different.  I had full opacity in two coats.

Let’s Crab a Bite

Let’s Crab a Bite is a bright warm-toned red pearl.  It has a bronze pearl that is hard to see on the nail, but it’s what gives this red its warm orange undertone and a certain “fire” to the color.  This had great coverage and was opaque in one coat, but I did two coats for the photo.

Ride The Wave

Ride The Wave is a turquoise blue glitter.  It has a turquoise blue jelly base with a turquoise blue shimmer and tiny holo hex glitters.  This is such a pretty color and I think is going for the more mermaid tail vibe.  Since this has a jelly base, it took three coats for full opacity.  If you don’t mind a little visible nail line and are going for more of an ocean look, then two coats would work as well.

Tail Me About It

Tail Me About It is a warm-toned lilac shimmer.  It has the shimmer/frost base with cool-toned purple flecks.  The formula on this was on the thinner side, so it took three coats for full opacity.  The formulas was easy to work with and applied nicely.  Depending on the length of your nails and the look you are going for, you could do this in two coats.

You Octopi My Heart

You Octopi My Heart is a bright but deep magenta crème.  There is a purple/blue shimmer that you can see in the bottle, but it doesn’t transfer to the nail.  I think this shimmer is what gives it its “brightness”.  This does dry matte and has a neon quality to it, so don’t do too many brush strokes or you may cause streaks.  I achieved full opacity in two coats.

Final Thoughts

I enjoyed this collection.  Morgan Taylor has a great formula and brushes that make application nice and smooth.  My favorite color from this collection is Ride The Wave.  It is such a pretty color and the formula wasn’t too chunky that it left a lot of texture to the nail.  The color story makes sense with the characters and themes of the movie.  There is a color and finish for everyone in this collection and if you’re a fan of the movies, new or original, these colors will take you under the sea!  Grab one or the entire collection from my store Morgan Taylor Splash of Color.
