Looking for some fun spring/summer colors for your nails? Are you ready for warmer, sunny days to be able to free your toes from shoes and show off your perfectly matching manicured digits? Well then do I have some new colors for you! Hello nail art enthusiasts! I have my favorite ten colors from the DND Duo Spring 2021 collection to review. DND Duos come in a set with matching gel polish for your fingernails and regular nail polish for your toenails. I’m going to be repetitive in this post, but the colors are great. The color consistency between the gel and the regular nail polish is amazing. Keep reading to see my opinions on some of the colors in this collection. I did shorten my nails in between swatching the regular polish and the gel polish, so you will see some nail length inconsistencies. I also applied top coat to all of the swatches.
713-Orange Sherbet
Orange Sherbet is a bright orange almost bordering on a neon orange. The regular nail polish was a little streaky on the first coat, but the second coat gave me full coverage. It had somewhat of a plastic-y finish. The gel polish was a little sheer on the first coat, but the second coat did give me full coverage. The brushes for both of the polishes were a wider flatter brush which I prefer. It helps the polish to cover my nails better. Both of the formulas were easy to work with.
718-Pink Grapefruit
Pink Grapefruit is a bright coral that leans more red. The first coat for the regular nail polish was really nice but I did apply two coats for full coverage. This too had a plastic-y finish. The gel polish was basically a one coat coverage, but I still applied a second coat. Both of the brushes were the wider flatter brush, and both formulas were easy to work with.
722-Strawberry Cheesecake
Strawberry Cheesecake is a bubblegum pink. The regular nail polish had a nice first coat application, but I did need to apply a second coat for full coverage. It has a plastic-y finish. The gel polish was almost a one coater, but I did apply a second coat for full coverage. Both of these formulas have the wider flatter brush and were easy to work with.
725-Sugar Crush
Sugar Crush is a light peachy-pink. The regular nail polish was a little streaky on the first coat, but evened out and was fully opaque for me on the second coat. It does have a plastic-y finish. The gel polish applied similarly but was a little less streaky. I applied two coats of the gel polish as well. Both of these formulas have the wider flatter brush and were easy to work with.
726-Whirly Pop
Whirly Pop is a medium pink with purple undertones. The regular nail polish was a little streaky on the first coat, so two coats was needed for full opacity and smoothness. This formula had a little less of the plastic-y finish than the previous ones. The gel polish applied better than the regular nail polish but was very similar and opaque in two coats. Both of these formulas have the wider flatter brush and were fairly easy to work with.
736-Watermelon
Watermelon is a medium green that has a slight teal tone to it. The regular nail polish needed two coats for full opacity and wasn’t as plastic-y of a finish as the some of the other colors. In the gel polish, this was a ONE coater for me! It was fantastic. Both of these formulas have the wider flatter brush and were easy to work with.
739-Velvet
Velvet is a light to medium purple with blue undertones. I needed two coats for full opacity with the regular nail polish. This one also had less of the plastic-y finish. The gel polish was another ONE coater for me! Both of these formulas have the wider flatter brush and were easy to work with.
741-Diamond Eyes
Diamond Eyes is a bright medium blue. I needed two coats for full opacity and the finish was plastic-y. Now this regular nail polish was the only bottle out of the ten I purchased that had a thin brush, which was weird. I don’t know if I got an old brush or what, so applying it wasn’t as easy as the others, hence the need for a second coat. The gel polish had the wider flatter brush and it was a ONE coater again for me!
743-Mike Ike
Mike Ike is a bright light to medium green. The first coat was streaky in the regular nail polish. I got full coverage with the second coat and it had a plastic-y finish. The gel polish was less streaky but I still used two coats for full opacity. Both formulas had the wider flatter brush and were fairly easy to work with.
745-Honey
Honey is a medium yellow almost like an egg yolk yellow. It was streaky on the first coat and there still was some shadowing after the second coat. I applied one more coat, so the picture is with three coats and a top coat. The gel polish was easier to work with and I only used two coats on the gel polish. Both formulas had the wider flatter brush and were fairly easy to work with.
Final Thoughts
I REALLY like the DND Duos. I think that out of some brands that have matching polish and gel, these by far match the best. In the colors I chose, you can tell from the picture above that you can’t see a difference in the colors. All of the regular nail polish swatches are on top, and the gel swatches are on the bottom. I really like the wider flatter brushes (with the exception of the Diamond Eyes regular nail polish brush) because it makes it easier for me to apply the polishes to my nails. Less brush strokes means less streakiness for me. I do think that DND is underrated and I’m happy to continue to grow my collection of them. I do like that they come in the two formulas because for me personally, I prefer using regular nail polish on my toes. It still lasts a long time and it’s much easier to remove than gel polish. I’ve always gotten really good wear time with both formulas as well. Now that I have both the DND Duos and the DND DC Duos, I have not seen a difference in wear time, opacity or formula. Some colors no matter which formula, are just harder to get perfectly opaque in one or two coats. There is a shape and size difference between the two. The DND Duos are 15ml and the DND DC Duos are 18ml and the bottle shapes are just slightly different., but I wouldn’t say that one formula is “better” than the other. It’s all about which formula has which colors that you want. Please try these out, and I know you won’t be disappointed.
