China Glaze Jewels Royale Winter/Holiday 2021 Swatch and Review

Hello nail art enthusiasts!  This next week is Thanksgiving.  So for those of you who celebrate it, Happy Thanksgiving!  I am looking forward to eating good food with my family and being thankful for being able to spend it with them.  Now back to the polishes.  The Jewels Royale collection has 8 colors with no crèmes.  The polishes are a combination of jewel tones and holiday colors that are sure to delight.  Let’s get started with this swatch and review.

24K Noir

24K Noir has a smokey dark gray to black base with green toned gold glitters.  I didn’t know if the dark base is what makes the glitters look greenish or if they actually are.  If you look at the macro shot, you see what looks like to me,  green toned gold glitters.  This color looks like the Grinch went swimming in Scrooge’s gold vault.  It went on smoothly and was opaque for me in two coats.

Spoil Me Royal

Spoil Me Royal has a purple jelly base with purple/fuchsia shimmers.  It looks like it may be a duo chrome in the bottle with some blue seen as well, but that didn’t convey on the nails at all.  I thought this polish looked really familiar as I was swatching it.  Well, that’s because it looks like an exact dupe of Purpletonium from the Xtra Stellar collection.  Some differences I noticed though, was that Purpletonium is a matte base and Spoil Me Royal appears “brighter” on the nails.  With that being said, it went on smoothly and it was opaque for me in two coats.

Ice & Bubbles

Ice & Bubbles is a champagne holographic glitter.  In the bottle it looks more cool toned than when I swatched it on my nails.  In the macro shot you can also see some pink and blue glitters in there.  This is a gorgeous polish, but you will need some top coat to quench its thirst.  Without top coat it dried gritty, so I needed a thick layer of top coat to smooth this baby over.  It does apply nicely and was opaque in two coats.

Glistening Pearls

Glistening Pearls is a peachy pink jelly base with iridescent flakies.  The flakies have to catch the light just right to be seen, otherwise they just look like clear flakies.  I have to admit this was my least favorite polish in the collection, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t good or that someone else may not love it.  I only did two coats for the swatch, but it would probably take several more to be opaque.  Maybe if the base was more opaque, the flakies would stand out more.

Stay Frosted

Stay Frosted is a pretty matte light blue pearl/metallic.  I like the color, but I didn’t like the application.  I don’t know if it was just my bottle or what, but the formula was not the easiest to work with.  It seemed gloopy and stringy, which is so unlike China Glaze.  I even used my polish shaker to make sure it was mixed well.  I did get full opacity with two coats.  I will try this one again because it is so pretty.

Emerald Magic

Emerald Magic is a dark green jelly base with what looks like multichrome glitters.  This color stole the show for me.  It is my favorite in this collection.  I did have to do three coats for full opacity which isn’t my ideal, but this color is absolutely worth that third coat for me.  I have nothing like this in my collection and the way the dark green pairs with those glitters is just stunning.  It looks like a christmas tree with tiny twinkling lights.  In my swatch photo, the green appears darker than it does with the naked eye.  The application was smooth.

Ruby Riches

Ruby Riches is a cranberry red jelly base with bright warm toned matching glitters.  This polish looks glowing on the nails.  The way the light reflects and catches those glitters is beautiful.  I did have some streakiness on the first coat, but that evened out and it was fully opaque in two coats.  This color is sure to be a hit with a lot of people.

Sapphire Up!

Sapphire Up! is a rich blue jelly base with bright matching glitters.  This formula was just like Ruby Riches.  The light reflects just the same giving this color a glowing effect on the nails.  This is another stunning color that I don’t have anything like it in my current collection. The application was smooth and opaque for me in two coats.

My Thoughts

The collection was mostly hits for me, but there were a couple of disappointments.  Spoil Me Royal, Glistening Pearls, and Stay Frosted, while all nice colors, just didn’t hit the mark for me personally.  I think Glistening Pearls is just missing that little something, Spoil Me Royal looks extremely similar to a color from the previous collection and Stay Frosted may just be a one off, but the formulation is just what turned me off.  The other polishes are awesome, but my absolute favorite is Emerald Magic.  I know I’ll be getting use of this polish.  Let us know in the comments below, what are your favorites and what can’t you wait to buy?   If you found this review helpful consider supporting our store where you can check out and purchase the whole collection here: “Shop Jewels Royal Collection“, or easily select from my top 4 favorites below.
